Building Regulations and guidance have been amended across the UK several times during 2022, mainly covering fire safety, energy economy and ventilation.

BBA Certificates are to be updated to allow for these new requirements, but users should be aware that this will take some time and that, in the meantime, the Regulations quoted and the associated comments may not be valid. This does not affect the performance characteristics quoted in Certificates and potential users should ensure that these parameters enable a product to satisfy the requirements of the current Regulations.

Further details as follows;

  • The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 (as amended) were further amended from 1st April 2022. The amendments introduce new requirements for fire performance and for materials to be used for the mitigation of radon.
  • The Building Standards Scotland were further amended from 1st June 2022. The amendments introduce new requirements for fire performance, in particular in reducing the maximum permissible height for the use of certain materials in external walls of certain buildings.
  • The Building Regulations 2010 (England and Wales) (as amended) were further amended, for England, from 15th June 2022. The amendments introduce new requirements for energy economy, overheating and ventilation in domestic buildings.
  • The Building Regulations 2010 (England and Wales) (as amended) were further amended, for Wales from 23rd November 2022. The amendments introduce new requirements for energy economy, overheating and ventilation in domestic buildings.
  • The Building Regulations 2010 (England and Wales) (as amended) were further amended, for England, from 1st December 2022. The amendments introduce new requirements for fire performance, in particular in reducing the maximum permissible height for the use of certain materials in external walls of certain buildings.
