The nature of the procurement process is often identified as a barrier to change. Dame Judith Hackitt’s statement from the 2018 ‘Building a Safer Future’ Report, confirmed that ‘Improving the procurement process will play a large part in setting the tone for any construction project. This is where the drive for quality and good outcomes, rather than lowest costs must start.’

Whilst previous research has been published on mainstream construction procurement, such studies often fail to address the experienced realities and further conversations are needed to explore the ideal.

Whether it be refurbishment or new build, construction is time-sensitive and complex in parts that relies on robust a procurement system. Understand better the challenges within the construction industry, how current procurement practices work and more importantly, can be improved is integral to improving the procurement process.

The FIS (Finishes and Interior Sector) are looking to explore this conundrum by inkling the whole industry to take part in a study focussing the realities of procurement and this webinar looks to set the scene for this survey as well as explore the wider connotations and reality of continuing to build though a failing procurement system.
