For several years now the UK construction industry has been facing one if its toughest challenges – a deep skills shortage that has left thousands of vacancies unfilled, suppliers short of hands and added pressure on the entire supply to deliver to deadline. The Construction Skills Network (CSN) recently wrote that to end the shortfall over 250,000 construction employees will need to enter the industry by 2026, an increase on their forecast from last year.
The question that arises, however, is where are these employees going to come from?
Brexit was a huge cause of the loss of skill in our industry, however, when we look to answer the question a little closer to home, the question that stands out revolves around recruitment into the industry, and the pathway that those just starting their careers, take.
For years, choosing construction as a career path, has been one that has been viewed as a last resort, or an ‘only’ option;
We wanted to bust that myth and join the ranks of many in our space, who are championing the opportunities that a career in construction offers. To do that, we’ve interviewed a number of industry leaders, and asked them to share their inspiring stories of what led them to choose construction as a career.
In this episode, we speak to Conal Rogan, Branch Sales Negotiator from BSS Group, the UK’s largest and leading distributor of pipeline and heating solutions.
Conal shares his story with us.
A huge thank you for your involvement.
