Jon Denyer has been appointed Chairman of B/540 Performance of Materials Components and Buildings – a key committee within the UK National Standards Body, set up to standardise thermal performance within the construction industry.

Jon, who has worked for the BBA since 1986, will help establish committee agreement on various standardisation issues; in particular, ensuring the UK’s stance on European and international standards remains well-represented.

He was appointed as Chairman following a meeting of the British Standards Institution (BSI) and Standards Policy Strategy Committee (SPSC). He afterwards commented:

“B/540 is the key committee for the UK’s national and international input into standardisation of thermal performance in the construction industry and a significant responsibility. I look forward to carrying on the good work of my predecessor in this role and enjoying the support of committee colleagues who contribute their time and expertise to the vital role of standardisation in this field.”

Jon’s appointment as B/540 Chairman marks the latest successful chapter in his 30-year career at the BBA, which began as an operator and developer of the organisation’s guarded hot boxes and plates for measuring thermal performance of insulation products and systems. He also provided building physics support to the BBA’s Product Certification teams.

In 2002, he was chosen to lead a team exclusively focused on building physics support across the BBA, with emphasis on thermal and hygrothermal performance matters. Five years later, Jon was appointed BBA Senior Scientist and is currently a member of the BBA’s Technical Excellence Team, ensuring technical robustness across the business.

Throughout his career Jon has been active in standardisation activities with BSI, UEAtc – The European Union of Agrément and the European Organisation for Technical Assessment (EOTA). He is currently Convenor of several National standardisation Committees and European working groups focused on the thermal performance sector.
