This time really will be different – how a Product Platform approach can help construction solve its innovation problem – and what this means for product suppliers.
The construction sector has been notoriously slow to adopt innovation, contributing to slow progress in tackling poor performance in areas including productivity, quality and safety.
In this webinar, Keith Waller, Programme Director at the Construction Innovation Hub will explain how a Product Platform approach can accelerate change and help the industry embrace the full potential of digitisation and Modern Methods of Construction.
A platform approach is grounded in the idea of a platform rulebook, which is a set of harmonised standards, specifications and dimensions for the elements that form a school, home, hospital or other asset type. The acid test for a rulebook will be that if each component complies with its specific rules, the asset as a whole will be fit-for-purpose.
In conversation with Andrew Crudgington, independent researcher and former Director of Policy at the Institution of Civil Engineers, and BBA’s Technical Director Bill Hewlett, Keith will explore the implications for product manufacturers including the creation of product catalogues for major clients, the changing role of certification, and quality assurance within a system of integrated manufacturing and assembly.
Topics covered in the discussion:
- What are Product Platforms?
- How might Product Platforms be structured in the construction industry?
- How can the use of Product Platforms help the industry improve its performance in innovation, quality and safety?
- How would the introduction of Product Platforms impact on the supply chain, in particular product manufacturers?
A huge thank you to our panellists:
- Keith Waller –Programme Director at the Construction Innovation Hub
- Andrew Crudgington – Independent Researcher and Writer. Former Director of Policy at the Institution of Civil Engineers
- Bill Hewlett –Technical Director – BBA
- Host – Katy Roberts – Head of Marketing – BBA
